DJs use BPM to choose compatible transitions, set beat grids, and judge how much time-stretching a mix will need. Two tracks do not need identical tempos, but knowing the exact difference helps you decide whether to pitch one track, create a tempo change, or use a transition that does not depend on locked beats.

Producers use BPM to fit loops to a session, calculate delay times, program sidechain timing, and organize sample libraries. A loop labeled 100 BPM but actually recorded at 98 BPM will drift across a longer arrangement. Measuring the source before warping it saves corrections later.
