About BPMDetector
A focused music utility that measures tempo without sending your audio to a server.
Why it exists
A practical tempo tool
BPMDetector was created for DJs, producers, musicians, dancers and video editors who need a useful tempo estimate from an audio file they already have. It analyzes the file itself rather than looking up a title in a catalog.
The core tool is free and works in modern browsers. No account is required. The surrounding guides explain what BPM means, why half-time and double-time readings occur, and how tempo relates to DJ workflows.
Automatic tempo detection is an estimate, not a claim of musical certainty. Sparse percussion, tempo changes, syncopation and unusual meters can produce more than one plausible pulse. The interface therefore includes confidence context, alternate tempo interpretations and tap tempo for a human check.
The site does not currently claim to detect musical key. Its Key BPM guide separates measured tempo from key-analysis concepts so an example label is never presented as an actual result.
How privacy works
Your audio stays on your device
When you choose a song, the browser decodes it locally with the Web Audio API. The tempo algorithm examines timing and energy changes in browser memory. The audio file is not uploaded to BPMDetector, stored in a user account, or sent to an external analysis service.
This local-processing promise applies to the audio analysis itself. Ordinary website requests still reach the hosting provider, and future advertising may involve third-party data practices described in the privacy policy.
